The Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) and the Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions (ABEF) in Algeria have organized a training course aimed to build capacity in the area of liquidity management in Islamic financial institutions.
It was the second such program organized by IRTI and the umbrella organization of professionals in the Algerian banking and financial institutions, under a memorandum of understanding signed to facilitate collaboration in Islamic finance capacity development.
The training course with theme "Liquidity Management in Islamic Financial Institutions" was held in Algiers from 15 – 17 October 2018.
It covered the different instruments used by Islamic banks in managing their liquidity, with some case studies of some Islamic banks operating in the Gulf Region.
In addition, the course presented some types of sukuk as an instrument used by some countries for liquidity management in Islamic financial institutions.
Participants in the training came from Algerian commercial banks, Central Bank, and Ministry of Finance. The program provided the participants with an opportunity to understand the Islamic liquidity management instruments and to identify the different requirements for their use in the Algerian context.
